ジン – 雷音 (Raion)

“Raion” by Jinn is their first single, and also the 4th OP theme for the anime Blood+. “Raion” could be said to be the song that gained them national fame when they appeared for the first time on Music Station (a music TV program in Japan) performing live on national TV.

When I first heard this song, I didn’t like it too much, simply because the singing wasn’t that good. The lyrics to their songs are very simplistic and minimalistic. And they looked as if they just walked out from a dirty basement studio when I first saw their music video (they still do, but I got over that). But the song’s energy and the way Jinn played their music was simply infectious. The energy and unconstrained way of playing their music was very refreshing.

Their b-side tracks are just as good as “Raion”, and I have to say that I’ve become rather fond of Jinn after listening to this single a couple of times. Here’s a video of their live performance mentioned above. A scruffy looking bunch (and their lead singer, Hii-tan is not the best looking gal in the world) perhaps, but they just seem to hold nothing back while playing and one really could grow to like their style of music.
